How quickly the months go - we’re already well into February, and the sun is starting to show its face here in London. We’re busy getting you improvements to the W&S service, including a possible way to purchase more of the records we send out. Some of you have wanted to gift your favourites to friends and family, so hopefully we’ll have a way to do that sorted in the first half of this year.
That idea came from a support question a while ago, so here’s a reminder that if you have any questions or suggestions, you can reach us on:
[email protected].
Now, on to this month’s records. A real mix of old and new this month:
Our LP is a very interesting one; a more obscure release by a relatively (for us) well known artist. Mike first heard this one in a friend’s parents record collection many, many years back and has had it in mind as a potential W&S record for some time. We’ve finally been lucky enough to get enough copies this month to send it out!
“A Hard Road” is the third album by
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. John Mayall was the piano and organ player with the band on this besides playing rhythm guitar and harmonica and that gave The Bluesbreakers a sound that was different from the other blues bands of the time.It also features a pre-Fleetwood Mac Peter Green, and some have said that in his contributions you can hear early indications of how the blues would lead to hard rock & heavy metal. So a great one for our box.
Our EP this month is
'Time Doesn't Die' by Cyphon, a London/Brighton based electro producer. Known for his live hardware sets, supporting artists like Assembler Code, Radioactive Man and Afrodeutsche, he also has quite a few releases on vinyl and features via many record labels such as Gunfinger Food, Patchbay Records, Infiltrate, Cultivated Electronics, International Chrome and Blind Allies. Check them out if you like this blend of old school electro, 303 heavy acid with a bit of drum and bass thrown in. Play loud!
