The Letter
We’re writing this letter for you still buzzing from seeing the legendary Leftfield and Orbital at Margate's Dreamland this weekend just gone. These were two groups that had a huge influence on the W&S staff back in the day, and they still continue to be amazing live as well. Catch them if you can wherever you are in the world - both look to have gigs across at least the UK and Europe over the next year or so.

Now, on to the records:

Unfortunately our months-long run of getting you two albums couldn’t last forever, so we’re back to an LP and an EP this month. We are talking to lots of suppliers at the moment though, so you should see some more 2-album months coming up this year (we hope)!

The LP for this month is a lovely one. It is the debut solo album from native Californian Los Angeles-based composer Brian Reitzell. He’s best known as a film composer and music supervisor on Sofia Coppola’s movies, as well as the classic vampire flick 30 Days of Night. He has also worked with bands like Air and punk/glam band Redd Kross. “Auto Music” provides insight into Reitzell’s thought process behind his film scores, and features guest slots from featuring guest turns from the likes of My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. Expect textural, immersive cinematic driving music from this one. We’ve had it on as work music for a couple of weeks here at W&S and it fits very well with that too.

Our 12” this month takes us back over the pond to Glasgow and London and back in time to 1971 with Atlantic Bridge. Glasgow-born pianist Mike McNaught’s aim with the band was to infuse pop and rock into jazz, covering Beatles numbers in their own style. The title track of this EP: “I Can’t Lie To You,” is a lovely original slice of jazz-rock that reflects the genre at the time.
