Now that we are all caught up with the backlog from our warehouse debacle earlier in the year, we’re starting to crack on with our new features that will hopefully enhance your experience with us. As we mentioned in a previous letter or two, we’ll hopefully be automating tracking info for each package directly into your control panel as a first round of new stuff. After that we’ll have some more exciting bits and bobs to tell you about.
Now, on to the vinyl:
Your album this month is something a little bit different (well, we always try to make them different, but this is a new concept). Some of you may know about the Moog, a seminal synthesizer in the development of electronic music. Now, take a customised and newly refurbished vintage Moog, and add Matthew Bourne, an experimental improvised piano specialist and composer. What you get is “Moogmemory,” an album that feels engaging, expansive and immersive, showing off the dynamic possibilities of the synth. It’s a lovely listen!
The 12”` for this month is a lovely fat wedge of drum and bass for you. “electronic” is the sixth volume in a series where Spearhead label founder BCee looks back over his sprawling discography and cherry picks key cuts that have flavoured the label over its last 17 years. There's plenty of soulful gold here, with highlights including the dusty waves and mystical shimmers of Villem & McLeod's 'No More Games' and early career defining cuts from the likes of GLXY (the introspective cosmic groover 'Remember To Forget') and Hybrid Minds and Riya (the powerful, triumphant 'So Far').
