Now, on to the vinyl:
This month’s album is an absolute party-starting dancefloor banger from Alex Crossan, AKA
Mura Masa. This album eschews the big concepts of his first two long players, and concentrates on making people move. With the help of excellent guests like Jamaican dancehall artist Skillibeng, Japanese rapper Tohji, Pink Pantheress, Shygirl, and Lil Uzi Vert, “
Demon Time” is a straight up party album.
Our EP is by Ghanaian artist
Rex Omar and is self-titled. This is a big offering, with some of Rex’s biggest cuts remastered on one 12”.
For those of you who don’t know Rex, he is a modern highlife luminary, and a real force of the Ghana music scene. With a career spanning 30 years he has evolved the genre, pushed boundaries and dazzled listeners with his inventive output.
His sound is a blend of street-soul-come-highlife-90s RnB, set to appeal to aficionados of different genres. Aroop Roy, a London based producer, adds a contemporary taste to the project, with his modern rework of the four-to-the-floor scorcher “Dada”. The release is a testament to Rex Omar's skills as a musician and his ability to blend different sounds to create something unique. His rich cultural background is reflected in the range of sounds that can be heard on this album, making it a must-listen for lovers of West African music and for those of you here to learn about new genres.
