This month we have something a little different: an album and a 10” album, the first of two 10” releases we’ve got for you. These are two releases with a 60s/70s flavour that are still very different to each other.
The full size album is from New York rock band
The Dig. On “
Bloodshot Tokyo,” they manage to put a unique spin on indie, injecting influences from the ’60s and ’70s, where psych rock and synth work dovetail seamlessly with modern pop/rock. The band members say they found inspiration from music that was popular in the 60’s, like The Kinks, Harry Nilsson, Betty Harris and Parliament, and you can definitely hear some of this throughout the album. A lovely collection of chill (mostly) love songs for lazy summer days.
Our 10” is the soundtrack to
Andrzej Zulawski’s 1971 film
Third Part Of The Night. Described as one of the heaviest psych rock film soundtracks of all time, the score reminds one of rock composers like Jean-Claude Vannier, Francois De Roubaix and Alain Gourageur (check out the seminal soundtrack to 1973 animate film La Planète Sauvage), creating a soundtrack that unknowingly begs comparison to Masahiko Satô’s Belladonna Of Sadness and Billy Green’s Stone. Unbelievably, we can’t find a single track that has sampled this album. Producers take note!
