Now, on to the vinyl:
Our LP this month is an absolutely beautiful live album from Rising Appalachia, a world folk group from Atlanta formed by sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, rooted in the traditional folk music of their family, storytelling, grassroots activism, lyrical prowess, and a multi-instrumental tapestry of their melodic ensemble. Blending folk traditions with contemporary themes, lyrics, and poetry. The band's unique sound is shaped by Leah and Chloe's soulful vocals, simple instrumentation, and seamless harmonies, unique to siblings raised in folk traditions. They are joined on “Alive” by a host of talented musicians who bring their own cultural influences, enriching the blend of folk, world, and urban music that defines their sound.
Our EP this month is from the mighty Peaky Beats Records, an independent record label based in Leeds. Taking influences from multiple Arabic genres, as well as the spectrum of UK bass music, Peaky is also the name of the main artist, who has an original sound with a line of self-releases on the label spanning from UKG, dubstep, breaks & much more, so if you like this one (PBR005), go check out their other releases. The A side brings 2 big energy UKG & Speed garage tracks, with the B side stepping up the pace for the slick & bass heavy ‘Listen’ and ending with some spacey, breaky, dubstep. ‘Marsha’s Champers’.
