The Letter
We hope summer is treating you well, and you’re getting some sun wherever you are in the world. We are very happy here at W&S towers, as this issue going out gets us all caught up with sends after our warehouse troubles this year. It really was a situation where lots of things happened at the same time, but has ended up with us using a much better service going forward, so silver linings and all that!

Now, on to the vinyl - we have a historical house/electronic vibe for you this month:

Your album this month is an unvault from prolific producer and DJ Gerry Read. Read began releasing house in 2010 using fruity loops, a drum kit and samples. A reasonably obscure house artist, he has still had an impact on the scene, with early releases would unknowingly coin phrases such as ‘Outsider’ or ‘Lo-fi house’. “New Junk City” is his 2017 album, which we have loved for ages. It covers a low-key spectrum of styles between the rusty carillon chime and woodblock drums of Crisis and the 154-meets-Herbert styled rumble and fuzz of Bounty Methods, and an 8-bit disco-house scramble with “Frankly.” Excellent.

The 12”` for this month is a piece of history reissued! “U Know How I Feel” is a very special release from the vault of Spencer Kincy, AKA Gemini. This is one of Gemini's first four releases, lovingly re-mastered. Originally released on Relief Records; the Chicago techno label headed up by Cajmere, these releases were Gemini's introduction into the worlds of house and techno. As one of Chicago's most mysterious and revered characters, the story of Gemini has become something of a myth - blazing a trail throughout the '90s, Spencer released over 200 tracks between 1994 to 1999. We were very lucky to get you copies of this limited reissue of 500 12”s.
