The Letter
This year seems like it has already flown by doesn’t it? We’re out of the depths of winter now & green shoots are coming. As well as getting excited about that, we’re also looking forward to July, which will be the 100th issue of Wax and Stamp! That’s over eight years sending out new, underground, weird and obscure music to you lovely people. To mark this we’ll be putting on a party here in London. We’re not sure of the venue yet but have a couple of good options. We’ll update you nearer the time with details when we know them.

Now, onto the vinyl.

We don’t send out compilation albums very often, but when we do they have to be top notch. There has to be something special or precious about them, or they have to educate really well on a niche or genre. (The last one was “Africa Airways” way back in issue 63). This month's is “Lost in Sound - Rare Funk and Soul Essentials.” There are lots of Soul and Funk comps out there, but this is a great mix of samples you might recognise, and some you won’t. All killer tunes as well, starting with Chyvonne Scott - “I’m Moving On” originals of which sell to collectors for up to £250, and ending with Skull Snaps’ - “It’s a New Day,” sampled by the Prodigy and Pharcyde amongst others.

This month’s 12” comes from the mighty New Sector Movements. Also known as IG Culture, NSM is a London, UK musician & performer - best known as a pioneer in the broken beat movement. He first became known as a member of hip-hop duo, Dodge City Productions, in 1990 & has been prolific in the scene ever since. This is the first release under the NSM moniker for 15 years, and it has been worth the wait. Set this on your deck and get ready for a wonderful ride of future R&B ('These Times'), jazz-funk-flavoured breakbeat soul (the incredible 'Stand'), head-nodding, Latin-tinged 21st century street soul ('Hope'), Kaidi and Dego style business ('H.E.A.T') and hard-wired, sub-heavy, peak-time ready broken beat (the infectious 'Bless').
